About
Neil Gershenfeld is an American scientist, Professor in the MIT Program in Media Arts and Sciences, and the founding Director of the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA). Renowned globally as the 'intellectual father of the maker movement,' he originated the Fab Lab network—which has grown to over 2,500 labs worldwide—democratizing access to advanced digital fabrication tools. With research spanning quantum computing, nanotechnology, and physical one-way functions, the CBA, under his direction, explores the boundary between information and its physical representation. He developed the famous MIT course 'How to Make (Almost) Anything' and leads the global Fab Academy program. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the AAAS.
